Myspace Magic: The Breaks

The second of this week's Myspace Magic features takes us across The Pennines and into the Arctic Circle. Sheffield is the home town of The Breaks, and, although there is a (probably) inevitable tinge of arctic-ness to the sound, the band has more to offer than a simple stereotypical link to the "Monkeys". The only track available to date on their myspace profile, 'Wasteaway Girl', is proof of that. NME-E decided to find out a little more...

NME-E:Who are you and how did you come about?

TB: We are The Breaks. We're a four piece indie/alternative band that are all based in Sheffield. We come into the Sheffield music scene as a band with a bit of a difference, including a southern vocalist, which is something which really differs from the current state of music where Sheffield's own is associated with the uniqueness of arctic monkeys-esque northern tounge. With previous projects such as acoustic solo acts, we've come together to create decent music, put it down on record, play live and fucking rock out.

The may not sound like "that lot", but the brash is cetainly evident.

NME-E: Have you got any releases to date?

TB: No releases as of yet, but we are aiming to record our debut EP in April and self release a limited run of hand painted cardboard sleeved cd's.

NME-E: If you could choose a band to support you, who would it be?

TB: The Rifles. I've seen them play a few times, and I loved their first record. Having met them a few times, they love a good drink. I'd quite like to drink with them for 2 weeks straight. Other than that, i don't know. anyone electric that puts on a good show, or anyone that slurs drunkenly by 10pm. so in that case, Jamie T wouldn't be a bad shout either.

Think I'll stick with The Rifles!

NME-E: What was your favourite album of 2008?
TB: Dan le sac vs scroobius pip.

NME-E: Finally, what are your objectives/prospects for the next 12 months?

TB: Record some EP's. Record some singles. Other than that, I just want to play as many shows as possible in as many places as possible.

The E.P. is yet to appear, but nme-europe is looking forward to adding it to the collection. Any discernable listener should too.

My thanks go to The Breaks for answering my questions. Please give them a chance by checking out their profile, now!
