Myspace Magic: Meeting Of Important People

This week's Myspace Magic band feature takes us back to the USA. Pittsburgh, to be more precise, is the stomping ground of Meeting Of Important People, a trio with a distinct American indie sound, bit of Wilco here, bit of Fugazi there.... An explosive combination which you can sample on their myspace page.

Anyway, the lads have their debut release on the way, indeed it'll be out on Saturday, so NME-E thought it'd be a good idea to learn a little about them in the week running up to such an importante date. Here's what Aaron (bass), Matt (drums and vocals) and, in particular, Josh (guitar and vocals) had to say:

NME-E: Who are you and how did you come about?
MOIP: We're an American garage-pop band called Meeting Of Important People. We enjoy making the loud parts loud and keeping the pretty parts pretty. We formed about a year ago in a small city in the States and have had very nice responses from people since.

NME-E: What are your releases to date?
MOIP: One single, "Mothers Pay More" on a national Key Party compilation disc. The full-length LP will be released March 28th 2009. There is also an unreleased full-length LP recorded in 2006 with Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine).

For those of us on this side of the Atlantic, we'll have to see if an iTunes download is finally available. Failing that, Josh has told me of a lower quality MP3 download link which would keep us going for the time being (it'll be posted when activated).

NME-E: If you could choose a band/artist to support you, who would it be?
MOIP: Love of Everything, a great act from Chicago.

Another band to check out, then! Bit of a Mogwai on first listen.

NME-E: What's your favourite album at the moment?
MOIP: 'Clouds Taste Metallic' by The Flaming Lips. Even if they are stirring up shit with Arcade Fire.

NME-E: What are your objectives/prospects for next 12 months?
MOIP: A proper release for our debut album. Have a few nibbles on labels and lots of blogs/press are saying nice things. Look forward to travelling a great deal and meeting the folks we've been chatting with online.

Well, the release is almost there. This blog is saying nice things and an invitation to Spain is most certainly open. Job done, then!

Would like to sincerely thank Josh et al for taking the time to chat to nme-e and wish Meeting Of Important People all the best with the release. Given them a listen here.
