Myspace Magic: So Shush

The first of this week's Myspace Magic features focuses on a Salford-based duo called So Shush. I was first attracted to this duo when I found out how they came together - on a dancefloor listening to The Smiths' classic 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out'. I promptly checked out their sounds - Ian and Carole kindly sent me a copy of their first release, the self-titled 'So Shush' - and was keen to learn more. The couple were kind enough to answer my questions; here's what they had to say.

NME-E: Who are you and how did you come about?
SS: We’re So Shush from Salford UK. We met by crashing into each other while dancing to The Smith’s song 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' at the Star & Garter, Manchester.

NME-E: What are your releases to date?

SS: We released our debut album called 'So Shush' in Autumn 2008. It’s available via iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Emusic and a load of other places. See review in Tasty Fanzine – Jan 2009. Our song 'People Need Something' was on the Skratch magazine US sampler recently and we’re likely to send masters for our second album to distributors within a couple of weeks.

In fact the new album, 'Wistful Wanders', was released this week (April 20th).

NME-E: If you could choose a band to support you, who would it be?
SS: The Hollies

NME-E: What was your favourite album of 2008?

Carole: 'You are here' - thenewno2

Ian: 'Living with War' - Neil Young (by the way we recently got to 16 in his video chart)

NME-E: What are your objectives/prospects for the next 12 months?

SS: We’re releasing our second album – we’re very proud of it and excited about it. We’re currently getting airplay on a load of indie stations in US. Hoping to start getting some meaningful UK airplay and our music out to more people who like might like it.

I've just downloaded the new album from iTunes, it will receive a full review soon enough, but early signs are more than promising - this could be one of the top indie releases of the year. Give them a listen on their myspace profile and judge for yourselves. Speaking to them earlier in the week, they said they were extremely happy with how things were going. Plenty of airspace on European and Stateside radio will hopefully earn them some well-earned credit.

Naturally, I'd like to thank So Shush for taking some of their precious time to talk to nme-europe and seriously recommend you all give them a chance.

You can get the album on iTunes, Amazon and 7digital, amongst others.
