Album Review: The Enemy

The Enemy: 'Music For The People' (Warner)

1. Elephant Song
2. No Time For Tears
3. 51st State
4. Sing When You're In Love
5. Last Goodbye
6. Nation Of Checkout Girls
7. Don't Break The Red Tape
8. Be Somebody
9. Keep Losing
10. Silver Spoon

After the merited success of debut 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns', The Enemy's follow up album has been a greatly anticipated affair. Unfortunately, anticipation has turned to disappointment.

The first thing that strikes you about this album is that it's eclectic. However, it's in danger of winning the Coldplay award for original rip offs. There's MORE than a hint of Oasis, Blur and the Verve in there, while 'Nation Of Checkout Girls' is really pushing it to the limit with its blatant Common People-esque tribute to Pulp.

Now don't me wrong, the tunes are fine and the album is enjoyable, but it's marred by the fact that you spend too much time thinking "that sounds just like ..."

A shame really, but it seems The Enemy have lost the plot, when the could have led the next generation of britpop.

Album rating: 5/10
Top track: '51st State' (it's the most original thing on there!)
