Weekly Round Up (25 May 2009)

Hi everyone. This week's round-up is a slightly briefer affair than usual, just focusing on "Top" Stories as Myspace is relatively quiet and I can't see any new releases to get excited about...

Top Stories
Legend Morrissey reached the grand age of 50 this week and celebrated it in typical style. A rock n' roll concert plus a 3 cancellations summed up the former Smiths man's career. Let's hope there are a few more years left in him yet. Unhappy Birthday, Sir!

Another grumpy old-fart, Sir Paul McCartney has got uppity with Google this week. He ordered images of his London house be removed from Google Streetview amid fears that his house in St John's Wood, would be viewable to anyone surfing the net, and has demanded it be removed from the web service. Like we have nothing better to do!

A younger, but equally grumpy Liam Gallagher has had a go a Midland boys The Enemy following their alleged attack on Oasis in a recent interview. In a twitter rant he asked if the band, who are supposed to be supporting Oasis on tour wanted to go on 1st "or what you little fucker?"

Promises to be an entertaining tour! Incidentally, I'll be offering some words of wisdom on the Enemy's new release later this week and they aren't going to calm Liam down (he's a regular on this site, you know).

Finally, a bit of American angst albeit justified in nme-e's opinion. Green Day have explained their decision not to censor their album at the request of US chain store Wal-Mart, which resulted in the store refusing to stock the record.

Singer Bille Joe Armstrong said. "They want artists to censor their records in order to be carried in there, we just said no. We've never done it before. You feel like you're in 1953 or something."

"If you think about bands that are struggling... to think that to get record your out in places like that, but they won't carry it because of the content and you have to censor yourself," he told the Associated Press. "I mean, what does that say to a young kid whose trying to speak his mind making a record for the first time? It's like a game that you have to play. You have to refuse to play it."

I vote for a censorship of Wal-Mart!

Not much then, really apart from a bunch of moans!

Hopefully next week will be a little morre positive!
